Great Ashby Community Church, Stevenage, Hertfordshire | Real Life, Real Faith in Stevenage

Love Stevenage 2019

Great Ashby Community Church was really excited to be part of Love Stevenage 2019. We joined with a number of other local churches to organise an Accessible Fun Day for children with additional needs. Children from across the town came to enjoy bouncy castles, soft play, crafts, drama, games, sports & even Shetland ponies. The whole event was free. As part of Love Stevenage we aim to demonstrate the love of Jesus for the people of our town.

Great Ashby Tidy Up

At Great Ashby Community Church we value our neighbourhood and want to keep it looking nice. A group of us spent a morning gardening in front of the community centre weeding & planting some flowers. Another group spent an hour litter picking in the local park. It was good to have some help from 3 of the Great Ashby community councillors.

Let’s Bowl

At Great Ashby Community Church as well as worshipping together, we love to spend time together relaxing and having fun. 30 of us recently had a great trip to Hollywood Bowl. Look out for upcoming activities which include a flower arranging evening and Easter Egg Hunt. Later in the year we have plans for a pub lunch, fun run, and church bbq.

Putting love into pratice

As our text for the year we have chosen these words from 1 John 4:19: We love because he first loved us. Over the coming year we will be looking at ways to put these verses into practice in our church and community. Look out for upcoming events and ways to get involved.

Soup for Peru

After church on 18th November a group of us enjoyed a simple lunch of homemade pumpkin soup in exchange for a donation to Latin Link. As a church we regularly support Sharon Jones who works in Peru creating Sunday school materials and training teachers. Thanks to all who gave generously, over £180 was raised to support her work in preventing abuse of children. You can find out more about her work at Life in Lima

Light Party

Local families had lots of fun making crafts, playing messy games, & icing cup cakes. As an alternative to Halloween we celebrated the Light of the World who is Jesus.

Happy Birthday to us!

At Great Ashby Community Church we recently celebrated our 12th birthday. The vision for a church in Great Ashby began as the new estate was being planned & now 12 years later we are at the heart of the community as we meet to worship & live out our faith as a witness to everyone who lives in the area.

Fun Run

The challenge was simple – could you run or walk a mile for charity? All ages from tots to seniors turned up in the glorious autumn sunshine at Great Ashby District Park last Sunday for the 1st Great Ashby Fun Run/Walk in aid of The Living Room. The fastest round the course was Grant Ramsay in 5 minutes 10 seconds, others enjoyed a more leisurely pace, strolling around with their family and friends. Parents and children enjoyed a little healthy competition as they raced for the finish-line. The youngest to complete the whole course was Grace Ward aged 4 ½.[…]

Our ‘New’ Minister

On Saturday 14th August we were delighted to celebrate the Ordination of Laura Gimeno as Minister with the Baptist Union of  Great Britain and her Ordination as our Minister at Great Ashby Community Church. Laura has been with us part-time as Minister-in-training since February 2017. She will now be working full-time for the church and is looking forward to getting involved with more activities in the community. Geoff Colmer, Regional Minister for the Central Baptist Association, conducted the service, with Simon Jones attending on behalf of Spurgeon’s College. Friends, family, and representatives’ from local churches also attended the event.

And fun was had by all!

What a weekend we’ve had in Great Ashby & Stevenage. On Thursday, several of us from GACC joined in with a prayer meeting with churches from across the town to pray for Love Stevenage. Then on Saturday we were involved with the Great Ashby Festival Fun Day with crafts, cake making, and hook a duck. Finally on Sunday we joined in the celebration service at Bunyan Baptist Church with Christians from around Stevenage to give thanks for all that God is doing in our town.
