As our text for the year we have chosen these words from 1 John 4:19: We love because he first loved us. Over the coming year we will be looking at ways to put these verses into practice in our church and community. Look out for upcoming events and ways to get involved.
After church on 18th November a group of us enjoyed a simple lunch of homemade pumpkin soup in exchange for a donation to Latin Link. As a church we regularly support Sharon Jones who works in Peru creating Sunday school materials and training teachers. Thanks to all who gave generously, over £180 was raised to support her work in preventing abuse of children. You can find out more about her work at Life in Lima
Local families had lots of fun making crafts, playing messy games, & icing cup cakes. As an alternative to Halloween we celebrated the Light of the World who is Jesus.
At Great Ashby Community Church we recently celebrated our 12th birthday. The vision for a church in Great Ashby began as the new estate was being planned & now 12 years later we are at the heart of the community as we meet to worship & live out our faith as a witness to everyone who lives in the area.
The challenge was simple – could you run or walk a mile for charity? All ages from tots to seniors turned up in the glorious autumn sunshine at Great Ashby District Park last Sunday for the 1st Great Ashby Fun Run/Walk in aid of The Living Room. The fastest round the course was Grant Ramsay in 5 minutes 10 seconds, others enjoyed a more leisurely pace, strolling around with their family and friends. Parents and children enjoyed a little healthy competition as they raced for the finish-line. The youngest to complete the whole course was Grace Ward aged 4 ½.[…]

Then on Saturday we were involved with the Great Ashby Festival Fun Day with crafts, cake making, and hook a duck. Finally on Sunday we joined in the celebration service at Bunyan Baptist Church with Christians from around Stevenage to give thanks for all that God is doing in our town. This year we are focusing in on discipleship, which is how we live as followers of Jesus Christ. Our text for the year is: Continue to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ – 2 Peter 3:18 (GNB) We started our year with a day of prayer for our community. On Sunday mornings & in our house groups we’re currently looking at the Prayer Course from HTB. We’re excited to see where the Lord will lead us this year.
