The challenge was simple – could you run or walk a mile for charity? All ages from tots to seniors turned up in the glorious autumn sunshine at Great Ashby District Park last Sunday for the 1st Great Ashby Fun Run/Walk in aid of The Living Room.
The fastest round the course was Grant Ramsay in 5 minutes 10 seconds, others enjoyed a more leisurely pace, strolling around with their family and friends. Parents and children enjoyed a little healthy competition as they raced for the finish-line. The youngest to complete the whole course was Grace Ward aged 4 ½. In total £200 was raised by those who took part.
Mark Wiseman, Fundraising & Marketing Manager for The Living Room had this to say, “We’re enormously grateful to our friends at the Great Ashby Community Church and Great Ashby Community Council for putting on the Family Fun Run in aid of The Living Room. The church has been a great advocate of our charity over the years and have organised events that have helped raise hundreds of pounds. There was a great turn-out for yesterday’s event – it’s heart-warming to see the local community come out and show their support for the work we do.”
The Living Room offers addiction therapy and support for individuals and families in the Stevenage area from their centre based at the Glebe. The event was organised jointly by Great Ashby Community Church and Community Council.
