Postcard from Snowdonia
3rd August 2010
Dear friends,
As I am sure you will have already noticed, it’s holiday time again. School’s definitely “OUT FOR SUMMER” (Alice Cooper sang it loud and long at this weekend at the Sonisphere festival as I am sure some of you will have heard especially if you lucky people live in the southern parts of Stevenage!!!) To me it feels like things have sort of, been put on hold for a while. Here at GACC we have been enjoying having the children in with us during our services. It’s been excellent for us to do things all together and it is certainly good that the people who work so hard with our children during the rest of the year have a bit of a break.
Martin and I will be going to beautiful Mull again this year and I can sense the rain clouds gathering as I write! It is wonderful to rest, to recharge batteries, to do some different activities, maybe to review things and perhaps get a different sense of perspective on our lives.
During his busy ministry Jesus took time out to be alone with God and to rest. He loved to climb mountains to do this and I understand that completely. He tells us to come to him if we are tired or if the burdens of life feel too great and we will find “rest for our souls”. This is deeper and richer than just resting. It is also to do with healing and restoration.
Whatever you are doing this summer, whether you are going away or staying at home, whether you are busy or taking a rest, may I suggest that you spend time with God allowing him to give you rest for your souls.
“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul.” (Psalm 23: 1-2)
May God bless you this summer time,
Yours in Christian friendship,
Sue
